The first month may be a bit challenging for some folks, but knowing what to expect can help you prepare. Thankfully, many people before you have gone through this. During the First 24 Hours<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In some cases, your dentist might tell you to wear your dentures for 24 hours straight that first day. This can help protect your gums from irritation, acting a bit like a bandage. However, after this, you’ll have to take them out during the night. This prosthetic isn’t designed to be in all day, so removing it helps give the soft tissues in your mouth a chance to breathe. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Two Weeks In<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Whether you are new to dentures or have had them before, brand-new ones can lead to some sores. These can make eating just a bit more difficult or cause minor discomfort. You should stick to soft foods for the time being. Mashed potatoes, pudding, and scrambled eggs don’t require much chewing, which can help give your mouth a break. As you get used to them, you can start eating slightly tougher foods until you feel more confident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Not only that, but you may notice that you developed a slight lisp. This happens to many people, so you aren\u2019t alone. To stop this, you can practice reading a book and taking the time to pronounce tricky words. Speaking with a trusted individual can be helpful as they can tell you what doesn\u2019t sound quite right. If you don\u2019t feel entirely comfortable doing this, then consider recording yourself and listening back to it!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After a Month<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Many tend to get used to their dentures after about 30 days or so. For some, it can be shorter and for others longer, but it’s important to give yourself some grace. The first month can be a bit difficult to get through, but starting anything new can feel like that!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
